“We turned to Shiloh Jentech to help us achieve our IT and communications upgrade because it offered us a one-stop-shop in terms of the best hardware, services and support. Implementation and after-sales support were crucial to us since most people that work at the Diocese or are affiliated to it, aren’t overly technical. We put our complete trust in Shiloh Jentech to provide us with the right solutions for our needs and ensure that we get the most from our IT investment.”

Moving away from tradition

Churches aren’t commonly thought of as being at the forefront of IT implementation, but as with all major organisations, IT plays an important role in supporting the Church of England’s activities. The Church’s infrastructure is very similar to that of local and national government. It also needs to share information across geographically diverse regions, and at all levels - both internally and to the public.

The Church of England’s Lichfield Diocese has always considered itself to be at the forefront of technology deployment. It was among the first Dioceses to move away from paper storage in favour of using access databases for parish information – speeding up the availability of key statistical details.

Shifting the office boundaries

Lichfield CathedralOne of the ways in which a Diocese differs to other organisations is the broad diversity that exists in peoples office set ups. Lichfield Diocese is no exception to this, with main offices, remote offices, home workers and travelling workers the need for a dynamic IT solution is high. Shiloh Jentech has been able to provide a robust mobile solution to the staff at Lichfield Diocese.

“Bishops and Archdeacons have the same professional needs of any senior executive,” Gavin Drake adds. “They work from home and travel a lot, so have to have flexible and powerful IT facilities supporting them. Like any other senior manager, our Bishops can’t afford to be offline when they’re working from home. If they do experience any problems, they just have to contact Shiloh Jentech and it will be sorted – they handle all IT issues, right down to a faulty phone line.”
